Organization Overview

Disability Rights & Empowerment Trust (DRET) is a non-profit organization established in Kenya as a Trust under the Perpetual Succession Act Cap 164, Laws of Kenya. The organization is committed to fostering a society that upholds justice and human dignity for all. Founded by a Human Rights Defender and Lecturer with a disability, who also served in the Kenyan Judiciary and Civil Society sector for many years, DRET seeks to address the challenges faced by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kenya.

What Makes Us Different?

At Disability Rights and Empowerment Trust, (DRET) we provide services to PWDs and their Families/ care givers as well as empowering the right holder, duty bearer and the community.

We promote the holistic wellbeing of Persons with Disabilities, Intersex Persons, and their families through counseling, referrals, peer support, and community solidarity initiatives.

We promote, enhance and defend the rights of PWDs and their care givers through access to justice initiatives, while driving policy change and community awareness.

We empower Persons with Disabilities, and their caregivers through advocacy, education, awareness, assistive devices support, and life-skills training for greater independence and self-agency.

Promoting equal access to services, resources and opportunities through partnerships and collaboration while leveraging Pro-bono Service Schemes.
